Panic at the Disco Celebrates Sixth Studio Album With Epic Release Party

If youโ€™re a Panic! At The Disco fan, then youโ€™ve never been more grateful for a record label, because frontman Brendon Urie wasnโ€™t necessarily ready to release a full-length album until Fueled By Ramen basically made him. That is, according to Brendon himself.

The frontman revealed during Panic! At The Discoโ€™s epic Pray For The Wicked iHeartRadio Album Release Party on Thursday, June 21, that he didnโ€™t anticipate releasing what is now their sixth 11-track studio album.

โ€œThis album, it surprised me,โ€ Brendon shared during the Q+A portion of the live 1-hour radio and YouTube livestream. โ€œI didnโ€™t think I was going to have an album right now and my mistake was showing it to the label,โ€ he added. โ€œI was just trying to do some Soundcloud.โ€

During an exclusive interview with iHeartRadio prior to the performance, Brendon previously explained that the album is โ€œtotally differentโ€ than anything theyโ€™ve done before.

โ€œFor me, sonically, it's completely different,โ€ he shared. โ€œThere are songs that I've never thought that I would ever write."

So far, fans have heard Pray For the Wickedโ€™s lead single "Say Amen (Saturday Night)," "High Hopes," and โ€œ(F--k A) Silver Lining,โ€ all three of which Brendon performed during the intimate, yet super-charged, glass-shattering, mega iHeartRadio Album Release Party.

The frontman, who added that part of his musical growth is thanks to spending the summer performing Kinky Boots on Broadway, kicked off the show with 2016โ€™s Death of a Bachelorโ€™s โ€œDonโ€™t Threaten Me With a Good Time.โ€ He then declared โ€œNew song! New song!โ€ before performing โ€œHigh Hopes,โ€ the second single off Pray for the Wicked.

Next up was โ€œThis Is Gospelโ€ off 2013โ€™s Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! and โ€œDeath Of a Bachelorโ€ off Panicโ€™s 2016 album by the same title, which he joked he โ€œwrote for Sinatra" but never heard back.

โ€œThis is what I call my bedroom voice,โ€ he then teased before breaking out new lead single โ€œSay Amen (Saturday Night).โ€ โ€œThis is as quiet as I go and itโ€™s pretty raspy because Iโ€™ve been smoking weed all day.โ€

Brendon and the gang closed the radio portion of the album release with 2005 โ€œoldie but goodieโ€ hit jam โ€œI Write Sins Not Tragediesโ€ to a bevy of elated fans before also offering a rendition of 2016โ€™s โ€œHallelujahโ€ and 2013โ€™s โ€œMiss Jackson.โ€

โ€œMy body is like โ€˜What are you doing?โ€™โ€ Brendon joked, taking a quick break. โ€œโ€˜Itโ€™s not tour yet.โ€™โ€

The self-proclaimed dad-joking frontman wrapped up the show by performing new track โ€œ(F--k A) Silver Liningโ€ and crowd favorites โ€œGirls/Girls/Boys,โ€ โ€œVictorious,โ€ and Queen cover โ€œBohemian Rhapsodyโ€.
