Lady Gaga is opening up about Joker: Folie à Deux, which received a lot of mixed reviews.
Joker: Folie à Deux stars Joaquin Phoenix, Gaga, Harry Lawtey and more, and got quite a few negative reviews. The film did not receive any Academy Awards or Golden Globes nominations, compared to 2019's Joker, which raked in $1 billion, and racked up many awards nominations, in addition to a Golden Globe and Oscar win for Best Actor in 2020 for his role in the original film.
In a new interview with Elle, Gaga is breaking her silence on the backlash, explaining, "People just sometimes don't like some things. It's that simple. And I think to be an artist, you have to be willing for people to sometimes not like it. And you keep going even if something didn't connect in the way that you intended." She adds that the fear of failure is what can be really damaging, explaining, "When that makes its way into your life, that can be hard to get control of. It's part of the mayhem."
In Joker: Folie à Deux, Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only finds true love, but also finds the music that's always been inside him.
