The Surprising Tip To Keep Your Christmas Tree Alive Longer

So if you decided on a real Christmas Tree this holiday season, chances are you want it to stay alive and fresh as long as possible. We decided to go with a real tree this year and I just love the smell of it in the house! Well in order to keep your Christmas tree alive longer, here's some tips from experts on how to make that happen.

  • Add a quart of water to your tree stand for every inch of the trunk's diameter. They key to maintaining a fresh Christmas tree is to keep the bottom 2 inches of the trunk immersed in water, even if that means refilling the stand every day.
  • Put the tree in water as soon as possible.
  • Lights can become very hot and cause a fire hazard if left on the tree unmonitored for hours at a time. Play it safe and turn off the lights if you're not going to be around to monitor the tree.
  • And lastly this tip really surprised me, I have never done this before. Add a fresh cut at the bottom right before you place it in water, and try to put up your Christmas tree the same day you bring it home. Using a saw, trim half an inch off the trunk before placing it in water in a reservoir stand.
