A study done by the University of British Columbia showed that when people are told there is an energy drink in their cocktail, they seem to get drunker faster (or at least think they are).
Subjects were actually given two different cocktails – one with Red Bull and one without. Folks who drank the Red Bull beverage claimed to have greater drunken awareness and a much more “stimulating” experience. For their part, researchers say subject exhibited “significantly increased perceived intoxication, risk-taking and sexual self-confidence.”
But don’t get it twisted. The secret to this might just be a psychological affect – as people assume they’ll be more drunk when energy drinks are in their beverage.
