Google just came out with an update of their Android software that added hundreds of new emojis, but also updated some old ones, and folks aren’t entirely happy. Apparently, many are upset that the salad emoji has lost its egg, and they're even angrier at the reason that egg is gone.
Google UX Manager at Expression design team Jennifer Daniel explained on Twitter that the decision to remove the egg came down to “inclusion,” sharing, "There's big talk about inclusion and diversity at Google so if you need any evidence of Google is making this priority may I direct your attention to the [salad] emoji,” adding, "We've removed the egg in Android P beta 2, making this a more inclusive vegan salad.”
Well, folks on social media did not react well to that explanation with one writing, “Excuse me i don't have legs, could you cut yours off so i can feel included? That's how it works right?,” and another wondering where Google’s priorities are, noting, “So instead of more privacy protections, better security, higher battery efficiencies, better update processes, code analysis for Android market, or pretty much any reasonable change, Google removes an egg from a salad?"
